Arts and Culture

Davenport is home to several music festivals that take place once a year. Even though the city is not in the South, it has a couple of festivals that focus on Southern music. The Mississippi Valley Blues Festival and the Valley Fair, along with the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival and seven mile race, are can't-miss events in the city. There are also museums and a historic building called the Redstone Building. Most of the museums are located in the Downtown Davenport area.

Neighborhoods

The city is divided into five distinct areas or neighborhoods. Many homes and buildings in the neighborhoods have a Victorian and Tudor Revival design, and many neighborhoods date back to the 1800s.

Downtown: Sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. The area has mostly apartments with a diverse community.

Central Neighborhoods: This area includes West Third Street, Hamburg, Cork Hill, East 14thSt., and College Square. Many of the homes are historic and have old-English designs.

East End: This area includes the Village of East Davenport, Prospect Park, and McClellan Heights. These neighborhoods run alongside the river. Most of the residents are upper-middle class.

Near North: Oak Lane and Vander Veer Park. This area was developed after the 20thcentury. The area and homes are newer and mostly middle-class residents.

Northwest and North End: A mixture of old and newer homes with many single family and multifamily homes. The area is a mixture of working middle-class and working class communities.
