  • The Maryland Air Museum! This all-volunteer, non-profit museum is dedicated to the preservation of aviation and space history in Maryland. In case you didn't know, Maryland is home to the world's oldest airport and the first commuter airlines. The museum has a dozen preserved planes and over 200,000 aviation photos, many of which document the period when the Martin company was building planes to fight World War II. If you're in Middle River, you may also see some fighter planes flying above from the 175th Wing of the Maryland Air National Guard, which is stationed at the local Warfield Air National Guard Base.
  • Housing stock! According to the 2010 census, a little over 25,000 people live in Middle River in 9,000-plus properties (many of which are rent to own). If you want a taste of historical Maryland houses, take a look at the Ballestone/Stansbury House on River Neck Road or the Perry Hall Mansion on Perry Hall Road.
  • Reasonably priced property! In 2012, the median price of a house or condo was about $160,000, lower than the rest of Maryland, which was a little over $100,000 more. Want beautiful waterfront property? Take a look near Seneca Creek. If you want something more cosmopolitan, try a nearby area known as Baltimore Crossroads where a new town center is sprouting up.
  • Steamed crabs, crabcakes, and crab pretzels! While Maryland is celebrated for delicious crabs, you can find some of the best plates of it in Middle River. Silver Moon Diner has excellent crab cakes (and homemade desserts) and is open late. Some consider Vince's Crabhouse the best place in Baltimore County to get steamed crabs. Bill Bateman's Express is known for its crab pretzel (that's a soft pretzel covered in gooey crab dip).
  • A little shoot 'em up! While it's relatively new to the area, Freestate Gun Range is a fun place to put some holes in paper. Newbies are required to take a lesson, so be prepared to learn a thing or two. This range has matches on Wednesday nights. If you want to check out an outdoor range, head over to Arlington, VA, to SpecDive Tactical.
  • Dodgeball! Have you had an itch since middle school that can't be scratched without pummeling someone with a rubber ball? Yes, there is a dodgeball court for adults in Middle River, Baltimore Country Dodgeball. If you want another locale, take a look at Alternate Routes in White Marsh, MD.
  • Icy treats! If you're a connoisseur of shaved ice, Middle River has many kinds of frozen desserts for you to consider. While the Scoop Ice Cream Parlor has top-notch chocolate, T&J's Snowball Stand will bring you back to childhood in the lick of a cone.
