Housing Statistics

Eugene is an affordable city with a mix of housing types. Because it is home to the University of Oregon, a large percentage of homes (47.4) are rented, while home ownership stands at 47.6 percent. The vacancy rate is only 5 percent, so finding a home might take some time. The median sale price for a home in Eugene is $238,500, an increase of 10.9 percent from July 2013 to August 2013, while home sales increased to 545 (23.6 percent).

Nightlife

Nightlife in Eugene can be a wildly entertaining affair. Nightclubs, bars, restaurants, variety shows, stand-up comedians, and movie theaters all add to the entertainment scene. Many of the entertainment venues are located in close proximity to one another, so you can easily walk. For all-day happy hour, visit Cowfish Lounge and Dance Club. Jamesons Bar and Lounge serves martini specials as their calling card, and they also have billiards tables for customers. The Davis runs a restaurant during the day and a high-class nightclub at night. The Horsehead is another sweet local spot, and it can be a great place to rest your weary head after a long night of dancing at the Rok. To conclude your weekend, try picking up some food late at night at Oakstreet Speakeasy to go with your last drink of the night. To top things off, Oakstreet usually has a variety of live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Local Sports

Football is a special sport in the heart of Eugene residents. There is a strong rivalry between the University of Oregon Ducks, Oregon State University Beavers, and the University of Washington Huskies, so you better be ready to pick a side. Local games are played at Autzem Stadium, which can seat up to 54,000. Many world-class track athletes, including Steve Prefontaine, got their start at the University of Oregons Hayward Field Track, so if you're interested in the speedier sportsmen, it's worth checking out.

Eugene also has a number of challenging jogging trails, including Pres Trail, Rexius Trail, Ridgeline Trail, and Adidas Oregon Trail. It's not uncommon to see cars parked and runners of all ages paying homage to Prefontaine's grave site, located on the road where his car crashed.
