Local Events and Festivals Indio is sometimes called "the City of Festivals" because of the amount of events held there each year. Annually, the city has music concerts, rallies involving 4 by 4 monster trucks, and horse riding and rodeo events. During the National Date Festival, one can expect to enjoy a day of camel racing. The Indio International Tamale Festival has gained a place in the Guinness World Records book. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has some of the world's best musicians performing in Indio each year. Other annual festival events that take place in the city are the Southwest Arts Festival, the Cabazon Indian National Pow Wow and the Palm Springs Kennel Club Dog Show.
Arts and Culture People in the city of Indio take their arts and culture seriously. One of the best places to view art is the Coachella Valley History Museum and Cultural Center. The center is comprised mainly of three sections: the Smiley-Tyler House, the Schoolhouse, and the Date Museum, which is the only one of its kind in the world. The Indio Hills Palms is a park that is dedicated to providing support for palm growing.
