Occupying 20 square miles of land in southwestern Florida, Estero is a census-designated area with a population of about 18,000. Estero has experienced significant growth from its humble beginnings in 1894 when Cyrus Teed built a small community on 320 acres of land. In 1904 the town was incorporated, but lost some traction four years later after the death of its leader. Presently, it is an unincorporated part of Lee County and maintains a communal feel.
